Basic Attention Token (BAT)
Basic Attention Token (BAT) is a decentralized digital advertising platform, “brainchild” of Brendan Eich, creator of JavaScript and Co-founder of Mozilla and Firefox.
The coin aims to fundamentally change the way digital ads are delivered. $BAT eliminates the need for third-parties in the delivery of ads by matching and delivering ads locally.
Use cases:
- Advertisers: purchase ad space and user attention in $BAT.
- Content creators: receive ad revenue and user contributions (donations/tips) in $BAT.
- Users: rewarded in $BAT for their attention (“ad revenue sharing”).
I came across this coin after hearing about Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund backing the project and seeing a number of YouTubers accepting this coin as a means of support for their productions.
$BAT’s browser “Brave” also recently had a promotion where it granted 300,000 of its tokens to current and new Brave users to incentivize the use of their $BAT-based publisher contribution system.
